Clean Energy Could Create Thousands of Good Jobs for California
California stands to gain more from the burgeoning clean energy industry than any other state. The study developed by the Renewable Energy Policy Project demonstrates that the right federal and state incentives could create 95,000 new jobs in California related to manufacturing components for renewable energy projects, such as wind turbines and solar panels. “The potential of an expanded renewable energy program will not only provide significant benefits to California, but to the nation,” said Jerome Ringo, president of the Apollo Alliance.

Mayor Villaraigosa Signs the Apollo Challenge
On August 16th, Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa signed the Apollo Challenge and launched the Los Angeles Apollo Green Building Initiative. Joined by Councilmember Herb Wesson and City Council President Eric Garcetti, Mayor Villaraigosa announced the city's commitment to leading the fight for energy independence and job creation by promoting a green, sustainable, and equitable economy.

Robert Redford Launches the Apollo Challenge
Academy Award-Winning Director, Actor, and Environmental Advocate, Robert Redford launched the Apollo Challenge on June 12th, 2006. Redford exclaimed "I really am here to applaud you and also the fact that Apollo has done something pretty amazing that is also very American, very grassroots, which is putting together a coalition of across-the-board entities that represent just about all of American industrial society." He then reminded us that "it's your future in your hands to act on, and I know you're going to do it because you have the power, and you're going to be the catalyst to force political change from the leaders that are elected to lead us."

Labor Leaders and Environmental Leaders Unite to Take the Apollo Challenge
Leo Gerard, President of the United Steelworkers joined Larry J. Schweiger, President of the National Wildlife Federation to endorse the Apollo Challenge on June 12th. While signing the Challenge, Leo Gerard asked "Lula da Silva is going to be the first president of a major democracy that leads his nation to independence—energy independence. The question is simply in my mind: If Brazil can be the first country to have energy independence, why can't we be second, and what is stopping us?" Larry Schweiger claimed, "I know when a nation needs an oil change, and let me tell you, it's time for an oil change in America."
